Dear Fam,
I'm glad to hear that you guys are
still doing scripture study! We've been challenging every family do to
scripture study all week so it's good to know that my family is doing it as
well and I'm sure you're noticing the added blessings. Tell Grandma
that I did get her delicious cookies before I left the MTC. :) Sounds
like your summer is crazy busy! I'm glad you're all doing well. I miss
you all like crazy! Did you guys watch the world wide broadcast??? Oh my
goodness I loved it and am so excited to see the changes come into my
mission! This week has been really good but really trying. We've
been mostly working on the less actives of the ward to get them to come back to
church. It's hard to watch them feel the Spirit and then do nothing about
it because of excuses. But that's alright. We have an investigator
named R. Her husband is in jail, and she is living with her
boyfriend...in the ghetto. So I got my first ghetto experience, ha that was
great. :) Well she committed to be baptized and we taught her the Law of
Chastity...a lot. But whether she actually does something about it is a
different story. We also taught this lady named F. Who is in her 70's
and has been a Catholic all her life. She is very stubborn. So we
kind of get a long. :) She has seen every set of missionaries that have ever
come to Le Mars. She said that she has never once felt the Spirit and has been
to a ton of LDS activities with members. She saw missionaries as a challenge as
a "let's see who I can go through this time." Knowing she had this
attitude we weren't going to see her because if her heart wasn't open then she
would be getting exactly what she wanted. A member, Sister H, invited us
over for dinner and she was there! So we just got to know her and all of that
good stuff. Then Sister W, being the amazing missionary she is, pulled out
the Book of Mormon and we talked about faith and how to grow our seed of faith.
It was so powerful. We just asked her question, we didn't throw anything on her
because she already was taught the lessons and we just discussed the universal
power of faith through the Book of Mormon. The Spirit was there and it was
strong, I love the power that comes through the Book of Mormon. So when I start
to get doubtful that people will truly listen to us I remember that the Book of
Mormon is the most powerful tool of conversion. My faith in that has really
grown this week. :) I got a little homesick this week. Which is weird
because the last time I was homesick was my freshman year of college...it's
been awhile. It was weird.
So every week we have zone
meetings. An Elder taught us the difference between the change of
behavior and the change of nature. Elder Bednar wrote a talk about it you'll
have to look it up. It's easy to change your behavior on your mission because
you're surrounded by missionaries. So when you get home you will be the
exact same person you were before you came! No bueno! So when you change your
nature you change for reals. So that's one of my goals. Change my
nature. It's really hard. But what isn't these days. :) In
sacrament meeting a speaker said that Satan is the happiest when we give in to
what our body wants, or when we give in to our natural man. Scary
right?! So whether that be sleeping in for 5 minutes or eating more
brownies that you need to, or not working out has hard to you should, whatever
it be he is the happiest...so yeah I've been working on that as well.
As you know we're living with Brother and Sister
C. We live in their now finished basement. We spent most of
our time this week sanding painting and texturizing. Then Sister W
and I being us decided we are big girls, we can move the couch downstairs by
ourselves. We don't need the Elders. Psh, we got this! Dumbest idea
we've ever had. Ever. The couch was crazy heavy and we had to take it
around the house and then through the basement. So now that we're really
really sore, we've learned just let the boys take care of the heavy
stuff. And then it got me thinking that we cannot do things alone.
Especially in missionary work. Even though Sister Wa and I
moved the couch together we still needed the help of the Elders. And of
course our Heavenly Father. This work is incredible. :)
Love,
-Sister Curfew-
