July 1, 2013

Hey guys,
You guys sounds like you're having a crazy summer!  I hope all is well there. :) We just had a tornado warning here...Scary! Nothing happened though.
This week has been CRAZY! We found some new investigators and they're pretty entertaining.  We met A while trying to visit a less active family and she
was sitting outside thinking how she needs to change her lifestyle and how she needs to bring God back into her life and then we walked by...:) (It's like God knows who
needs the gospel, what weird??!) :) So we taught her the Atonement and Repentance and about the Restoration and all that good stuff. :) Then we went to go visit her later in the week and the cops were on their way because her family was all drunk...Yeah that was awkward. :) Bhahaha But then the coolest thing happened on Wednesday.  We were at the church for a choir practice shin dig and this lady named M came in and walked right up to us and was like "I need help and I know I need to be at this church right now can you help me?" and of course Sister W and I were "Yes, yes we can!!!" :) So she told us her story of her son dropping of her grandkids and then never coming back and she doesn't have the money to support all four of them. So she was going to ask for welfare but they can't help you unless you're a member and paying tithing. So yeah, we thought once the Bishop told her that she would be out of here but she said after she was denied "This is just a sign that God wants me to do be strengthened." We were oh my gosh you're amazing! So we've been teaching her and her grand kids this week and they love it.  She smokes but she got a blessing from a member of the bishopric and it was one of the strongest blessings I have ever listened to.  She says that she wants to get baptized and it's not because of the welfare but because she feels so much better here. She is Native American so we're teaching a descendant of the Lamanites! Cool right?!  So it's been really exciting to teach!  Then we met a dude named J...ha that was exciting.  He said that if he went to our church then we had to go to his, which was a non denominatioal praise and worship service. He said "Bring your dancing shoes."  So we said yes.  He wasn't expecting that so he flaked out on us when we showed up to go his church.  But he didn't believe that we needed the Book of Mormon.  He said we don't need anymore.  I wanted to read to him 2 Nephi 29 ha you'll have to read it.  Lays down the law!  We told him we believe in the Spirit World and he was like it doesn't say Spirit World in the Bible, you guys are wrong.  We were like dude calm it down! So we're working on him...Hopefully we will be able to help him feel the Spirit because after that there is no turning back right? ;)  We have focused a lot of our efforts on less actives.  The number one thing that causes people to be less active is being offended.  People are so easily offended here! Our Bishop is a democrat so a lot of people won't come to church because he is a democrat! Tolerance anyone? Anyone? Nope, none.  I wanted to quote to them Elder Holland in that one talk from last conference "God has to deal with imperfect people all the time, that must be terribly frustrating!"  Sometimes I feel bad because all these people are listing off reason why they don't go to church and I'm just like suck it up, put on your big girl panties! The gospel of Jesus Christ is still true no matter they crazy people! I am heartless soul!  You can always tell when a family is not reading the Book of Mormon together, it equals chaos and disaster in emotionally and physically in the home.  Satan is working SO HARD on families!! He's got to go!
One of my favorite things about being a missionary is my hour of personal study in the morning.  I get to study the Book of Mormon.  I've read it plenty of times, but it's different somehow now...I read in 2 Nephi 4 earlier this week and it spoke to me personally. :) Magic.
I played tennis with a member for P-day and that was awesome! Tender mercy that I got to just chill out and do something that I love. :) Bummer that we couldn't keep score because missionaries can't...but it was still really fun. :)

Love you!
-Sister Curfew :)
