Dear Family, July
22, 2013
Good to hear about
President C. He sounds like he is doing better and that the community is
helping out a ton. :) I got the package!! I gave it to Sister C (the
Sister we live with) to hide so I wouldn't open it until Saturday. I knew
I would get to curious and just open it.
This week has been great. Hard but
that's missionary work. It transfer week so that's exciting. Sister
W will be going home this week so I will have to be with a temporary
companion until I get my new permanent companion. So I am staying in
Le Mars for a little while. (Most likely 8 months....) I will be trained
for the next transfer and then after that I will be training all the new
sisters coming in. YIKES! But my temporary companion is a Spanish
Sister so all of our appointments and stuff will be in Spanish...I might be
praying for the gift of tongues soon. ;) So we were super low on miles
this week. We only have like 250 for the rest of the month...which is our
fault. But it's been good because we spent most of this week in Le Mars rather
than Sioux City. So we just tr-acted and tr-acted and tr-acted and then tr-acted
some more. And people kept telling us over and over again the same things. So
it turns out that there is a class held at one of the Lutheran churches in town
called "How to handle the Mormon missionaries." Bhahaha! They prepare
to bash on us! Oh man. That to me just proves that our church is true if they
have to prepare for us. :) It's also funny to clear up some of the
misconceptions. No Joseph Smith was not helped by aliens. No, we don't practice
polygamy. Oh man I don't know where people come up with these things...:)
But yeah. Opening up an area is hard. This area might not open up while
I'm here but one day the people will realize the false doctrine in the their
churches and have the bravery to change tradition. We know the only way to do
that is through the members. And I actually gave a talk on it this Sunday at
church. It went really well. I was nervous but as soon as I got up I
could feel the Spirit testifying to the members of the ward on the importance
of missionary work. One of my favorite quotes I used was "Missionary work
is an eternal principle, we were doing it before, we are doing it now, and we
will be doing it after this life." But my
testimony of sincere prayer has been strengthened this week. We were
committed to doubling the amount we pray. So over meals I pray for like
10 min and morning and night prayers I pray for 30 minutes out loud. It
's so hard! And then we have to have a notebook nearby to write
Revelation. They said to make your own Doctrine and Covenants. So it's
been really inspiring to communicate with my Heavenly Father more deeply.
I was praying one night about how to get the members in missionary work
because we were frustrated because NO ONE is listening to us. And the
thought came to my head "How did you get over being scared to share the
gospel?" I said the MTC. "Then teach the MTC to the
members." So I talked with Sister W about it and then we talked
with our ward mission leader and then he talked to our Bishop. And
they're all for it. So that's what we'll be doing. Teaching what we
learned through Preach my Gospel and the Fundamentals in the MTC to the members
to help them understand and give them a desire. :) So pray that we'll be able
to make that happen in the most effective way possible. :) So yeah that's been
my week. Exciting stuff is happening.
Love you, thanks so much for the package
I look forward to opening it on Saturday.
Love, Sister Curfew
